Born and raised in the San Jose Bay Area, Joe’s career in the trucking industry began while still in high school during the early 70’s when his parents, Joseph V. and Lucille started JSG Trucking. As the business grew into other areas, Joe moved to join his brother Steve in establishing the company’s Lodi roots in 1977. While continuing his education at Delta College and California State University Stanislaus, Joe was involved in every aspect of the business from maintenance, driving, dispatch to eventually taking over as president of the company 1992.

Joe has successfully managed JSG Trucking for over two decades navigating the obstacles of deregulation, insurance crisis, fuel pricing and now CARB compliance, along with many other issues that have plagued the industry. Under his leadership, Joe has diversified the companies hauling capabilities from a flatbed carrier to include dry van and curtain van freight, oversize loads and equipment leasing. He has seen the company grow from its original one truck operation in the 70’s to the current fleet size of today. JSG Trucking continues to be a leading carrier in Northern California by reacting to the varying business climate and to customers’ needs. They proudly serve a customer base of some of the largest companies in the nation. Joe states “I am particularly proud of the reputation we have established of providing exceptional customer service and the safety standard we have set for ourselves and for this industry.”

During the past 35 years, Joe has also been involved with the other family business, notably JVG Associates, which was a wholesale food distributor with their own canned food brand known as “Great Choice.” Joe operated the 100,000 sq’ distribution warehouse, which offered repackaging, sorting and rail services up until the company was sold in 2006.

Joe has been a member of the California Trucking Association since 1989. He has served on the San Joaquin Unit Steering Committee since 1998 and is currently a member of the CTA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. In 2005, Joe was elected for a two- year term as Chairperson of the CTA San Joaquin Unit and has belonged to and chaired various policy committees during his membership.

Married to Carol since 1983, they have established their home in the Lodi area where they are raising their two children, daughter Rachel and son Vincent.
